Come Home

Today at church, the priest used an extended example from a Star Trek movie* to illustrate a point made by a 14th-century saint, Gregory Palamas: that we can only find God through our hearts, not through our minds. Of course, the college students in the row in front of me snickered a bit at the nerd flavor of today's homily. Philistines. Does this perhaps make Father Michael a Geek Orthodox Priest?

* The movie referenced was Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, though Father mistakenly called it The Search for God, no doubt confusing it with Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.

Inspector Gadget Theme Song

This is the most random collection of sentences ever, and the entire text from a spam email wanting to teach me how to treat my lady right.:

The horse neighed. He has no beard. He galloped down a side alley. The head moved. News traveled fast! Of course I got into the eddy.
And also much beets for sugar. The man's eyes frogged. Rien de plus facile. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN. Par for the course. That was some mail! Why is my daughter silent?
Nature has a reason for all things. It ended in a fight. John Halifax and others. It is not true? Unless the Moors are Negroes. Of course the jury then acquitted him. The lovers were married. He only had two more papers left. Penelope coughed twice in her sleep.
But why show the planes? Now the above are facts. But he was without politics. Woe is me! Do I kiss thee better? My opinion is the general opinion. But a talent. Bigotry is an odd thing. Daughter of the great whore of whores. They thought she knew where he was. What can they be?

Today is another lazy Friday, the more so since it's an early out for the students and in-service day for the teachers and staff. Shortly, pizza will arrive. Yum. We're also a little overstaffed today which means I get to spend just about the whole damn day back in the workroom. I won't because there's only so much internet browsing I can do in a day. Besides, I'd like to accomplish some real work today as well.

I have leftover Valentines from Tots so I think I'll hand them out to patrons as they leave tomorrow. (The Valentines include suckers and patrons aren't allowed food in the library. Duh.)

I started watching Moonlighting on DVD. I used to watch the show with my mom during daytime reruns when I was a kid. I'm glad I ordered this, because it's definitely fun. The mystery bits a a little forced, but I've only seen the first two episodes so far. I'm pretty sure Cybill Shepard's character gets less annoying (not that she's terribly annoying now, just a tad) as time goes on. Bruce, of course, is fan-fuckin-tastic, as always.

His hair is kinda weird though.

Closer (Precursor)

I've started accounts at GoodReads and  Shelfari to keep track of the books I've read. I haven't decided which of the two I like better yet, so for the time being I'm using both. LibraryThing remains for the books I actually own. These are the reviews I've been posting at the various websites.

That's it for random nerdiness today.
